YOUR WORK, YOUR REFLECTION

YOUR WORK, YOUR REFLECTION

When I started my career in Tech, I always got obsessed with anything that I came up with, both in designing and coding. Before sleeping, I did look at my designs, even I woke up.

The first App that I developed was a music player. Anytime I wanted to play music, I would prefer to upload the music from my PC to my App so that I can play and listen to it on my own App. The truth is, I was obsessed with it.

Seeing the work of my hands always gets me excited, the truth is, most time I get surprised and ask myself, am I the one who designed this?, am I the one who developed this?, am I the one who wrote this article?

I celebrate but don’t worship the work of my hands but rather give God the glory, for the grace of being able to express and achieve it.

Working with people has never been to compete, impress, or oppress but rather to express myself.

Looking at the work of my hands has been one of the ways to measure the level of my creativity, activeness, and seriousness in life.

Looking at the mirror has been a way to see how I look in my body, reading the Word of God has been a way to see the state of my spirit but looking at my works has been a way to see some part of my soul.

This now brings me to the concept of “Work“, over the years, Human beings have seen work as pain and punishment, we even think the work was as a result of the fall of the first man – Adam. This is actually not the truth. Going back to the book of Genesis, I tend to understand that work was the part of the foundation of heaven and earth.

It was recorded that God Himself has to rest on the 7th day, now the question is what did God do? He only spoke. And that is all. Meaning the word ‘spoke’ must have been a hard work that God Himself has to rest.

Are you also lovers of nature like me? Most time what I see is beautiful works of the Most High.

Don’t let us go far, look at your picture in the mirror? What do you see? A beautiful and wonderfully made human being. I tell you, my friend, that is the expression of God’s creativity.

Jesus said in the Book of John 5:17: “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”

In Genesis 2:5, it was recorded that God did not allow rain on the earth, why? Because no man to ’till’ the ground.

And this now brought about the creation of the first man – Adam. He was put in the Garden of Eden to ’till’, meaning to ‘work’. And his first work was to give name to things.

“And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
– Genesis 2:19.

Let me show you how creative Adam was in naming, from the first statement that came out of his mouth:

And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” – Genesis 2:23
That is creativity.

If you ever notice or study the life of founders, one of their attributes and creativity is giving a suitable name to their product. Have you ever wondered how someone just came up with a product named Uber, Netflix, Farmcrowdy, Paystack, Opay, Jiji and so on?

Reason with me my friend, hey! come let have dialogue – “Work is passive without you. It can’t do anything. Work is only an idea before a person does it. But the moment a person does it, the impact of the work on the world becomes a reflection of that idea—the idea behind the work—as well as the person doing it.

“In the process, the work you do becomes you. And you become the force that breathes life into the idea behind the work.

“You become the creator of the impact on the world of the work you do.

“There is no such thing as undesirable work. There are only people who see certain kinds of work as undesirable. People who use every excuse in the world to justify why they have to do work they hate to do. People who look upon their work as a punishment for who they are and where they stand in the world, rather than as an opportunity to see themselves as they really are.

People don’t like to bring life to the idea of the work they do; they bring death to it.

Now, therefore, the work you do is a reflection of who you are. If you’re sloppy at it, it’s because you’re sloppy inside. If you’re late at it, it’s because you’re late inside. If you’re inconsistent at it, it is because you are inconsistent inside. If you are religious, action-faking, or unfaithful at it, it is because you are religious, action-faking, or unfaithful inside. If you’re bored with it, it’s because you’re bored inside, with yourself, not with the work.

The most menial work can be a piece of art when done by an artist. So the work we do is not outside of ourselves, but inside of ourselves. How we do our work becomes a mirror of how we are inside.

Work is one of the ways to build your self-esteem, discover your skills, talents, and abilities, develop a strong attitude, express your hidden potentials, kill laziness, provide for your physical needs, execute your dream and make an impact in life of others.

That’s it, my friend, choose to work and in every your work, choose to be the driven force that breathes life into the idea behind the work, and not death to it.

Thank you.
